Growing Runner Beans

Date: 7th May 2018 @ 10:59am

In Science recently we have been looking at the topic of plants. We have investigated all sorts of different plants and looked at the things all plants need in order to grow. The children planted runner bean seeds at the start of the topic and kept them fed and watered and in the sunshine for two weeks. Whilst our runner beans were growing we investigated what would happen to seeds planted but then given no sunlight or no water. We also had a seed that we didn't even plant in any soil to see what would happen.

We have looked at the different parts of flowers, by disecting and labelling daffodils and tulips, and trees. We also discussed the functions all the different parts play in keeping the plant healthy. In literacy we also looked at non-fiction books all about plants and the children designed their very own page for a class non-fiction book all about plants.

As you will see from the pictures, our runner beans were a great success and hopefully they are continuing to flourish at home. If the children manage to grow any beans we would love to see some photographs (or part of your harvest).

Welcome to Mount Carmel RC Primary; a place where we proclaim Christ’s message of hope and celebrate the uniqueness of each child.
