4S 2018 - 2019

Miss Scott

Dear Parents,

I hope you all had a fantastic summer holiday.  I am very excited to teach your children lots this upcoming school year as their new class teacher.

Here are just a few points to remember this year.

Children must come into school every day dressed in the correct uniform; this includes black school shoes. However, the children may change into appropriate foot wear at lunch time if they are wanting to run around.

PE Kits

We will be going outside for PE when the weather permits - Outdoor PE will take place on a Friday.  Please ensure that your child has a full PE kit at school. This consists of a plain white t-shirt, blue or black shorts and outdoor trainers. All of these items should be clearly named.

This year I want the children to participate in running a mile every day. This means I will take Year 4 outside for 15 minutes every day to run or walk (their choice) around the playground. Therefore, if you would like your child to change into suitable running shoes; these must be in school. The children will not require any additional items for this. PE kits should be sent to school in a plastic bag/separate from their school bag – these will stay in school and get sent home at the end of each half term. If your child does not have their PE kit, for health and safety reasons, they will not be permitted to take part in the lesson.

The children will attend swimming lessons every Monday morning. Therefore, they must NOT be LATE to school as they will miss out on this great opportunity. They must come to school in their uniform and bring a waterproof jacket (with a hood); in case of rain whilst they walk to the swimming baths. Finally, they can bring a healthy snack. Please remember swimming is in our curriculum and the children are expected to attend and participate.

Please ensure that your child is in class for 9:00am every day. The class register is taken at this time, as lessons start promptly after. It is vital that they do not miss any of their lessons through late attendance, as this can have a huge impact on their learning.

The children finish their classes at 3:30pm and will be dismissed promptly at the KS2 playground.

Your child will receive a reading book and reading record. We send familiar texts home to help develop comprehension, fluency and expression.  It is really appreciated and your child will certainly benefit from reading to you regularly at home. We aim to change all reading books on a weekly basis– however, please send your child’s reading book and reading record to school each day. Every week the children will have the opportunity to change their books on Friday ready for the weekend.

The children will receive a homework book from school. They will be given two pieces of homework to complete every week; this will include spellings and either mathematics or writing. The children will be given homework every Monday for the following Friday. This means they have the week to complete it. Spelling tests will be held every Friday; therefore the children will receive a list of words to revise a week in advance. The children will bring their homework book in on a Friday.

Water bottles

Could children all bring in a water bottle with their name on, this will be kept in school so that children can have a drink at break time/lunchtime and throughout the day. You can buy a water bottle at the office for a reasonable price.

Lunch Boxes

Please support our Healthy Eating Policy when sending your child to school with a packed lunch.

Dojo system

The children will follow a behavioural system in which they will be awarded and deducted dojo points according to their behaviour. The children have decided as a class what they should be awarded dojos for and when they think dojos should be deducted. This is a great way for the children to take responsibility for their own behaviour. In addition, our school do follow a traffic light system. The children will get a warning and then their second warning will lead to moving their name to red; with a consequence of losing part of their play time.

If there is anything that you would like to discuss, please do not hesitate to make a suitable appointment for after school, on a day that suits us both.

Yours sincerely,

Miss Scott

Year 4 Class Teacher.
