The Curriculum at Mount Carmel RC Primary School
The curriculum at Mount Carmel has been specifically tailored to meet the unique context of our school. It is designed to be broad and balanced, providing all pupils with the opportunity to master their learning, deepen their knowledge, feed their curiosity, which will help them to be life-long learners enabling them to put their faith into action and face the world of tomorrow confidently.
We strive to provide a learning environment that is joyful, stimulating and ambitious through a supportive and varied range of learning experiences that cater for different abilities and needs and celebrate our God- given uniqueness.
As a Catholic school, we are deeply committed to developing pupil’s faith following Jesus Christ as our inspiration and Our Lady as our role model. We use the Jesuit Pupil Profile to take a direct and strategic approach to the formation of the whole child. By developing children spiritually, morally, socially and culturally, we believe our pupils will be better equipped to face the diverse and ever changing world.
The curriculum at Mount Carmel is knowledge engaged and is, at least, as ambitious as the National Curriculum. The programmes of study are the basis of pupil’s learning and we extend this by ensuring pupils access a range of knowledge and skill based experiences through both the curriculum and enrichment/extra- curricular activities
The curriculum at Mount Carmel is organised through the Early Years Curriculum and the Programmes of Study of the National Curriculum for all subjects from Years 1- 6.
Where possible we teach History, Geography, Art and Design and Technology as a cross curricular approach allowing children to put knowledge into context in a coherent way. Specialist teachers teach music and PE across the school.
Curriculum maps for each subject and year group exemplify how coverage is achieved and how knowledge is secured across the school and can be downloaded from the files below.
