Phonics and Early Reading
Phonics and Early Reading
At Mount Carmel, we help your child to get ready to read and write using phonics.Children learn and practise many of the skills that they need for reading and writing from a very early age.
Your child will take part in a high quality phonics session everyday in Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 2. These sessions are active and fun- filled with an emphasis on teaching the skills your child will need for reading and writing. The programme that we use to help us to plan and teach high quality phonics sessions is called 'Letters and Sounds'.
At Mount Carmel we use 'Collins Big Cat Phonics' and 'Bug Club Phonics' reading books to support your child's reading journey and help your child progress from decoding words to reading fluently and for pleasure. These reading books are aligned to 'Letters and Sounds.'
Parent workshops are hosted yearly. You can also download a copy of our phonics presentation for parents using the link below.
