Spring 1- What have we learnt?

Class: Year 1L Year: 2023 - 2024

Science

The children are able to name a variety of materials and some of their properties. They applied this knowledge to making hats in D&T.

D&T

We made hats for a rainy day out of upcycled materials. The children used a range of joining techniques to fix together a variety of materials effectively.

R.E- Rights and Responsibilities

Year 1 learnt what their rights and responsibilties are. To develop their understanding of their responsibilty to look after the planet, the children learnt about what they can do to protect wildlife. They applied their learning by upcycling materials to make hats in D&T, picking up litter and finding out what materials can be recycled.

Geography

This half term, we learnt about the seasons. The children are able to use weather symbols to represent the weather in the different seasons. They know that due to the weather we wear and do different activities.

Art

Children are mixing primary colours to make secondary colours. The work of Henri Matisse has inspired the children to create their imaginary landscapes using warm and cool colours.

P.E.- Gymnastics

We now know the names of shapes we can perform in gymnastics. We learnt about squeezing our muscles so that they feel tense when performing balances for five seonds. This made us stay still and balanced.

Welcome to Mount Carmel RC Primary; a place where we proclaim Christ’s message of hope and celebrate the uniqueness of each child.
