Autumn 1: Science- Living Things and their Habitats
This term we have looked at Living Things and their Habitats. We have sorted animals and objects into categories such as living, dead, never alive. We investigated some micro habitats in our local area. We had great fun! Firstly, we chose 2 of our favourite micro habitats, looked for them and described the, using our own illustrations. Lots of Y2 chose flowers and rocks for their microhabitats. Then, we acted like scientists to investigate outside our classroom looking for animals in different microhabitats. As a class we decided to look for insects and any animals in the soil and in the leaves. We found lots and put these in a pictogram. Linking our maths data knowledge too! See some images below.
We have looked at different habitats for a range of animals around the world in different climates such as the rainforest, arctic and desert. We used our digital literacy skills to research lots of information before choosing our favourite habitat, writing a sentence to describe it and drawing a picture. The children loved using QR codes to retrieve information from websites like national geographic kids to learn about what different animals live in different habitats and what those habitats are like. Well done Year 2- Super work!
