British Science Week 2025
Date: 14th Mar 2025 @ 3:10pm
This week, we celebrated British Science Week! The theme for this year, "Change and Adapt," has inspired our children to reflect on how humans, animals and technology evolve to meet the challenges of a growing population and changing environment.
Throughout the week, children across the school have been delving into science lessons that explore these themes.
Reception have been very busy! They learned how sea animals adapt and change through a deep-sea yoga session. They also watched carrots grow by chopping carrot tops and placing them in water and on cotton wool. Finally, they explored how colours change when they mix two together, discovering the magic of colour blending.
Year 2, as part of their topic about plants, conducted an experiment to explore what seeds need to grow. They set up five different pots with varying conditions to see which pot of cress would grow the best. The children made predictions for each pot and are eager to see the results unfold over the next few weeks.
Year 3, have also being exploring how plants grow in their hands-on experiment.
Year 5 used the Phizzi Forces resources to investigate which material would cause the least amount of friction. They conducted a balloon race using different types of lines: washing line, string, twine, and rope. Their prediction was that the washing line would cause the least friction and they were correct!
A particular highlight of the week was the KS2 Science Assembly and Science Fair held this afternoon. Children showcased the exciting work they’ve been doing, demonstrating their creativity and scientific thinking. It was a fantastic opportunity for them to present their projects and share their findings with peers and staff.
British Science Week has been a brilliant way for our school community to come together and celebrate the wonders of science and the importance of adapting to the ever-changing world around us.
