Chinese New Year
The children have enjoyed learning about Chinese New Year. We have enjoyed practicing Chinese writing and have had lots of fun using chop sticks in the continuous provision. We learnt about the story of 'The Great Race' and have enjoyed pretending to have their own race in our sand area.
We have learnt how to say Happy New Year in Chinese and found out that people sweep their homes ready for the new year and decorate their homes with red paper lanterns. Chinese people wear red clothing because in Chinese culture red symbolises happiness and good luck.
Did you know that at Chinese New Year people give and receive gifts of money in lucky red envelopes? They also give each other gifts of tangerines and oranges.
The children enjoyed dancing with ribbons and scarfs to Chinese music and for golden time the children enjoyed a Chinese banquet.
