Hello Friends
Date: 15th Dec 2021 @ 6:15am
We have been looking at the book 'Hello Friends' by Rebecca Cobb. Two soft toys arrive in reception, sitting with their arms around each other. They had an envelope, on the front of the envelope it says ‘Hello Friends!’, inside the letter said, ‘Hello Friends, We have just started school in your class. We like to play and learn together. Love from Max and Dot. We talked about how it is important to know each other's name. We then had a go at writing our own name labels during busy time. The next day the toys arrive back with a model tower, a book (‘Hello Friend’) and envelope. Next to the tower is a label, which says ‘Tower by Max and Dot’. The envelope says ‘Hello Friends!’ and inside is a message: ‘Can you build a tall tower with a friend?’ The children enjoyed working together in the continuous provison to make towers together. Later in the week they made creative pictures in pairs and we discussed what we liked about our pictures. The children learnt about the importance of being a good friends. In circle time we thought about what made a good friend and we shared our ideas. In the story the little boy was nervous and upset as he had just started school. We thought about the characters feelings in the story and thought about our own feeling. Lots of the children felt nervous starting school just like the little boy. At the end of our first week in school we talked about how we feel now and lots of children said they didn't feel nervous anymore. Well done children.
