Moving Monsters - D&T day

Date: 2nd Apr 2025 @ 2:23pm

In D&T we have been learning about pneumatic systems - systems that use air to work. We looked at different pneumatic systems such as a beach ball, whistle, recorder, bike pump and balloon pump. We thought about how we could create a pnumatic system to make a moving monster. We decided to use a balloon, tube and a balloon pump and then designed our monster using a clamshell box.

We created two prototypes. The first prototype we used an elastic band to seal the balloon to the tube. We found that this wasn't effective so for our second prototype we used sellotape. We found this easier and more effective. We then used our design sheet to create our moving monster using felt tips, card and paper. We were very creative!! We insterted the ballon and tube to the inside of the monster's 'mouth' and attached a balloon pump at the back. When we pumped the balloon up, the monster's mouth opened! It was amazing! A very successful pneumatic system.
