Poetry Day Focused on UNICEF Rights of the Child
Today, we had a very special day dedicated to exploring the UNICEF Rights of the Child, which was integrated into performance poetry across the school. Each year group was assigned different rights to explore, with a focus on bringing these important messages to life through poetry and oracy. The day began with an inspiring assembly to launch the themes.
In EYFS and KS1, children explored Article 31, the right to play, and reflected on the importance of play in their lives.
In KS2, children delved into several key articles, including Article 28 (the right to access education), Article 8 (the right to their own identity), Article 31 ( the right to use their own language, culture and religion).
Throughout the day, children engaged with a variety of poetry related to their rights and focused on developing high-quality oracy skills. At the end of the day, they had the opportunity to perform their own performance poetry, showcasing their understanding of these rights in a creative and expressive way.
It was a memorable day, helping the children connect with important rights while honing their creative talents!
