Y5 Rocket Workshop STEM
Date: 23rd Mar 2025 @ 3:53pm
Year 5 have also had a fantastic time in DT this week. They had to design, create and launch their very own model rocket by learning about the basic principles of rocket design, materials and propulsion. With Earth and Space as their science topic this term, they began the day by learning about the origins of space travel and watched the safe landing of the Dragon capsule from the ISS this week. Using materials such as cardboard, elastic bands and recycled bottles, they planned their model rocket, sketching ideas and bringing them to life through construction. They had to do lots of measuring, cutting and assembling parts, as well adding their own unique designs and features to make each rocket special. Once the final rockets were built, Year 5 headed outside to launch them, observing how their designs performed and thinking about any improvements they could make. Whilst enhancing their creativity skills, this wonderful workshop introduced them to the exciting world of engineering and space exploration.
