Date: 22nd Oct 2022 @ 11:16am

Science Investigation Microorganisms Autumn 1.jpg

As part of our science topic, Living Things and their Habitats, we reviewed how microorganisms can be helpful and harmful.  Our experiment investigated how microorganisms reproduce.  We pressed a hand into slices of bread - half the slices of bread had a wet hand and the other half a dry hand.  We then added a further variable and placed the bread (in safely sealed bags) in different environments to assess whether light or temperature would affect the rate at which the microorganisms would reproduce. Our findings showed that the wet bread in the dark and warm cupboard showed a significant amount of mould after only thirteen days. The slices of bread that had been placed in the freezer, did not show any visible mould after thirty days because microorganisms cannot reproduce below 0°C.
