WW1 Artefacts
Inspired by our work this week on remembrance and war poetry, one member of the class was kind enough to bring in some family heirlooms from the first world war to show everyone.
These included: the 1914-15 Star awarded to all who served in any theatre of war against Germany between 5th August 1914 and 31st December 1915.
The British War Medal 1914-18. The silver or bronze medal was awarded to officers and men of the British and Imperial Forces who either entered a theatre of war or entered service overseas between 5th August 1914 and 11th November 1918 inclusive
The Allied Victory Medal. Each of the allies should issue their own bronze victory medal with a similar design, similar equivalent wording and identical ribbon.
The British medal was designed by W. McMillan. The front depicts a winged classical figure representing victory.
Along with the medals was a bible, which was issued to every soldier who fought in the war, which is dated Sunday 5th December 1915.
Thank you so much to Louie for bringing the fabulous artefacts in to share with us. It was amazing to see and touch something from the era which we have been studying in class.
