Science Week - Home Learning
As part of Mount Carmel’s science week, children across the school were challenged to complete an experiment at home, record it in some way and bring it in to showcase the learning they had done at home. 5W had a couple of great entries.
Stacy created a homemade lava lamp using a few simple household items. This was the perfect solution for someone who fancied a relaxing way to light up their room, but perhaps didn’t have the budget to stretch to a full blown lava lamp. Using basic ingredients like water, a little oil, food colouring and a fizzing tablet (similar to an Alkaline Seltzer). Some fantastic scientific explanation and language used in your explanation Stacy and your instructions were really well written so we could all try it at home too!
Caitlin also created something spectacular: an erupting volcano. Again, you can replicate this experiment at home by following Caitlin’s instructions as all you need is some vinegar, baking soda and a little food colouring for effect. Mr Williams demonstrated this experiment earlier in the year but I think we can all agree that your version is much better Caitlin. Check out how much “lava” is erupting from that volcano.
Thank you both for sharing your experiments with us in school.
